Fine Art Photography Images

This collective is what I want to achieve using my own view. I want to achieve a mood story in relation to people with an impulsive output but relating to surjects that affect people in todays culture. This would involve creating eye catching, controversial images taken from unusual angles with moody backgrounds and in unnatural poses. Below is a collection of images that reprise my vision of notion using people and portraiture and emotion.

Pandemic

Created using window lighting technique using Canon 2000d, 18-300mm lens, 1/20-f5-100.
My sitter is facing toward the window light in the centre of the image giving the face and the mask the main focus with the background darkened.  How I progressed this image is illustrated below.
My thought process for this image was to create an image that portrays how a lot of people felt towards the end of isolation during the pandemic. Not only wearing one face mask but wearing six, covering the entire face. I feel like this gives a good portrayal of feeling isolated not just being isolated. Although the emotion is not visible on the sitters face I feel that give a strong negative refection on how they may feel. I felt that cropping the image and removing the slogan from the jumper gave a stronger image.

How it was created

  • Changed the contrast to give more dramatic look
  • intensified saturation to give bold colour
  • cropped jumper out of image to remove slogan
  • camera raw select background
  • darkened the background using exposure tool
  • changed image to black and white
  • increased canvas size by double
  • dragged same image into canvas
  • inverted vertically
  • converted to smart object
  • changed filter to solarize

Light at the end of the Tunnel

The image I have used below was actually two separate images I used for another project. I feel these worked well using diptych. Both of the images where taken outdoor using natural lighting. One in the dark and one in the daytime. The image above was taken in full darkness and I used the lighting on the railing as my main lighting source. In order to make these images into fine art i used a few editing techniques as shown below.

The concept I am hoping to adapt is taking several portraits of a young teenager captured from different angles, as well as images of the surrounding areas. The surrounding areas would then tie into their feelings and surroundings capturing any buildings, fields, or any other people present. I am trying to create a unique perspective and think out of the box, although producing dark images I feel these could have a real meaning behind what I am trying to achieve. My image is Called ‘Light at the end of the tunnel.’ In the first image there is a real sense of darkness, and the sitter is looking over the edge of a bridge or railing. Although we cannot see what if at the other side, the fact that the models face is covered and, in the shadow, and thy have their arms crossed as well as looking down represents a feeling of being hidden or alone. They could be having some alone time or contemplating their life. In the second image the model is in a brighter atmosphere, looking up and their face is shown. This could represent them looking at what used to be or just overall feeling more hopeful with life. I tried this image side by side and do not feel it worked as well. The fact the sitter is looking down on the first image then looking up on the second show they are reflecting at each emotion.

In image 1 -I captured this at night-time at the Kelpies. I like the fact that on a previous visit they have a lot of artificial mood lighting and I felt this would work well when planning this image. Although this image was not intended for this excurses it still works well and decided to use it. I wanted to incorporate the lighting used off the railing onto the sitter's jacket, this shows it Is the same jacket used in the second image. Rule of thirds has been used in this image but with a twist. My low aperture has given the focus to the railing and my sitter is left in the background. Something is found works well. Settings used Canon 2000d – iso 100- f1.4- shutter 1/30

In image 2- I captured this image on a bright day in my own garden, I like the fact when this image was transferred to monochrome that it gave a complete contrast to the first image. It is completely white and bright and completely focuses on the sitter. The cigarette in hand also gives a feeling of normality, not something I had pre-arranged, but it gives a natural feel given that it was a natural pose. The sitter is the only focus in this image, and I used a slight rule of thirds also. Looking up and thinking back on the past, what used to have been... my title reason, Light at the end of the tunnel. Settings canon 2000d iso100- f8-sutter 1/60.

How it was created

I do not have every step as I used an image that i created for another project
  • I changed both images into black and white
  • I created a diptych by changing the canvas size by double
  • I then dragged the second image and added it below, followed by cropping to desired look
  • One my diptych was sitting i wanted it i converted image to smart object
  • I selected filter, stylize then solarize to give the finished look

Addiction

Created using window lighting technique using Canon 2000d, 18-300mm lens.1/20-f5-100. How I progressed this image is illustrated below. My thought process for this image stemmed from todays youth society, particularly males and teens. A common concept to media, technology and games consoles is that it takes up pretty much of everyone's time and time gets carried away from us whilst doing so. I used the games console and controller, headset and model being looked at through an open keyhole. I found this gives a strong message regarding the addiction people face when I comes to this technology. I myself having faced this with my teenage son. The keyhole represent the ability to feel trapped and alone and closed off from the world. The hands sit in the playing position pressing buttons freely. The composition fills the frame whilst being taken from behind a keyhole silhouette. This gives the main focus to the whole image itself. Created in black and white I feel this image works stronger. I then decided to used text instead of Vector. On Photoshop i selected the type tool and highlight where on my image i wanted text. As i went along i changed the size of the font to make it look a little more sporadic. I also changed the color to different shades of grey to compliment the rest of the image.

How it was Created

  • filter images using camera raw star rating
  • changed image to black and white
  • edited contrast to give more striking effect
  • saved image as appropriate file type for print
  • saved a jpeg file

Body Stigma

My idea around this image was not planned. I seen a mannequin body for sale and thought this would make an effective creative image. I used window lighting for this image, the lighting came in from the left hand side at 90  degrees. I used coloured measuring tapes to work on top of the body.
Created using window lighting technique using Canon 2000d, 18-300mm lens. Black mannequin used tripod, coloured tape measures. settings   1/4-f3.5-100

 How it was Created

  • using camera raw i selected background
  • I lowered the exposure and darkened black and shadow to darken the background
  • I selected subject on camera raw
  • I heightened the contrast and saturation to make the coloured tapes pop
  • I then used photoshop to erase the excess tapes from around the body
  • i then rotated my image by 45 degrees so that the mannequin was then facing the front
  • saved image as appropriate file type for print
  • saved as jpeg

Two Faced

My thought process behind this image was to create an artist portrait to create three dimensional art.  I used two mannequin heads in white and sat the strategically so that one was in focus and the other was still in focus but in the background. using coloured photography acetates  over studio lighting, one coming from one side and another coming from the other side both at 90 degree angles. enough to create light and shadow giving contrast and depth. I used one purple one blue.
Created using Canon 2000d, 18-300mm lens. Studio Image Camera settings 1/60-f5-100
Two mannequin heads< colour photography acetate, two frontal  key lights at 90degrees each side, no secondary lights.

How it was Created

  • using camera raw i selected the best image using star rating
  • I then selected background on camera raw and changed the exposure to almost nothing creating a darker background
  • I then changes the saturation which gave a green effect towards the left hand side
  • I then used photoshop to change canvas size to almost double
  • I dragged same image into frame below the original image
  • converted image to smart object and changed the image to invert vertically to give the appearance of reflection.
  • I cropped the image to fit the frame
  • saved as appropriate file type for print
  • saved as jpeg

Storage and backup

All of my final images are stored in in two separate locations, one is a HND1 USB stick and the other is on my Icloud and Mac at home. Here I will demonstrate how i store my files on USB. This gives me the ability to use my files wherever i may be.

  • HND1
  • HND Caron
  • HND Fine Art
  • 5 fine are images and screen grabs saves a jpeg files
