Moving Image- Morachd UK

My thought process behind my ideas around moving image has came from work I have already done for this Company Morachd UK. I think this would be the ideal opportunity to do a promotional video for their property services whilst completing my HND1. I need a business plan. After a brief run down we have decided the video needs to focus on inviting high end customers to engage with the company.

About Morachd UK

A Family run business started from scratch in sunny Cowdenbeath. Directors are young husband and wife Toni & John Mair who have both lived in Scotland their entire lives. This business started out as a linen and laundrette company with a logo on their car. Toni says her approach was ''fake it, until you make it'' and her business as came on leaps and bounds ever since. They both now run an established business in property management, Renovations, Development, Linen hire, Cleaning services and now offer their own branded cleaning and hygiene products as well as their own branded linen in each property they run. Two of their main properties are the ones we will be concentrating on, these are Carphin House in Luthrie and The Bridges Cottage in South Queensferry.

    Change of Plan

Moving Image research

Unfortunately after all my hard work planning I released that this project was too big for the time scale I had in place due to the company owner not being available when needed. I then decided to do my moving image project on a smaller scale. I will now do my moving image as a real estate type video advertising a 4 bedroom property. I will be using the same techniques as shown above and will concentrate on my video being as smooth and shake free as possible. I done my project on my own property as it was clean and bright and worked around my own schedule due to the delay of the previous project.

Who uses moving images? On research I have found that using DSLR is becoming more and more popular within many industries and it can be used to capture still and moving images. A lot of documentary work now consists of using video footage mainly to credit the maker or for use of explanation. In advertising, wedding and corporate DSLR is used widely to show live footage, candid elements and used to sequence stills together. it gives more variety.

Real Estate Photography/Video

The main reason why anyone capturing any real estate type videoing on a DSLR is because of how versatile it is. Like I mentioned before it gives you the ability to capture moving and still images. A DSLR is also portable and durable and provides the ability to be able to use different lenses and filters to suit different environments and wide angle shots. Most real estate photographers nowadays because of technology will use their smartphones to capture in 4k, but this limits their editing and saving profile ability for using later on. Professional real estate photographers will almost always use a DSLR camera if they are shooting stills. The down side of course for using any professional to take images for real estate of course means that it will cost money, and will take time to produce the right images. www.icpmedia.com

Techniques used for Real estate photography

When planning any images weather it be moving or still images it important that we know what type of environment we are coming into. it is also a good idea to get a run down of what is required from those who have employed you to do the job. Creating a shot list will guide any photographer through their process of work more smoothly and will ensure no important elements are missed. These images will be the main selling point of any property that is going up for sale, therefore it is important to showcase it as best as it possibly can be.

A DSLR and wide angle lens are probably two of the most important pieces of kit required. A wide angle lens will make even the smallest of spaces look spacious. A trip would also be beneficial for those darker harder to light spots to avoid and unwanted camera movement and shake at a slow shutter speed. Speaking of lighting, it is also very important that you are creating the images on the right kind of day and during the best time of day to ensure all images are clear and sharp and to avoid more work by creating artificial lighting that may in fact get in the way.

Another good bit a practical advice would be to clear the space, remove clutter and ensure all images give a good representation of the property. Having messy areas and clutter will create focus to these items rather than to the room itself. Cables, bins and people can become distracting and will make the images look messy. www.masterclass.com

Moving image sequences

It is important that any moving image sequence flows. Synchronizing each movement so that it glides into the next sequence using dolly and tilt shots and panning. Some other editing techniques include dissolve and fade, fast motion and slow motion between and during shots. These are what i am planning to use on my final image.

Moving Image one- Morgans Property Moving Image 1

Moving Image Three- Morgans Property Moving Image 3

  • zoom out

I have chosen the three listed moving images as examples of work because i like how clean and well presented these videos are even thought they are full of information. They show each property well, they are well lighted showing the are taken a t the correct time of day and on the right day itself. Each image sequence is short and guides smoothly onto the next sequence. This gives the target audience that little bit extra rather than still images because they then get a real feel for the room and property itself as each shot shows the most attractive feature of the room. I like the way each sequence starts at the door to each room, this gives a feel as to what it is like walking into the space. The target audience for these images and properties would definitely be for those who are intending to purchase a new property, young families and first time buyers. The credits on each image are kept to a minimum and i also like this as it doesn't distract away from the video itself and doesn't over power the viewer with too much information. It displays the property company at the beginning so the audience knows who to contact for viewings. I feel like the composition works well and the rotation of images shows a more in depth viewing as the camera works its way around each room. Not always taken from eye level adds to creativity and perhaps the viewpoint of a younger person or child. Overall i feel these images work well for their intended purpose. To act as a selling point for the property as a whole.

Putting together my Video
  • I selected all the images i required and edited using imovie
  • this app allows you to put together a moving image video with ease
  • once all my images where selected and in sync i then added a pre recorded tune to the video
  • each clip then was cut to fit into each other
  • i used a blur motion between each scene so that each moving image flowed into the next
  • i then added credits to begining and end
  • moving image file was then saved to my sd card as a quick time video

 Adding Credits Music and information

I chose a suitable backing soundtrack (future base surrender)  that was able to be played on loop. I then used Adobe Premier Rush to put together the whole video which needed to be under 3mins long. I had to shorten a lot of footage in order to meet this criteria as I wanted to use 2 separate camera techniques or angles for each room. I added credit. One introduction. another descriptive then a final contact Credit.
